Sansar/Suniyata Khanna

Suniyata Khanna is a very sensitive artist with a unique insight into the spiritual, psychological and creative universe. She has many national and international exhibitions to her credit. She has brought out several collections based on different themes which express her visions about both the inner and spiritual world.

Her recent collection of paintings is titled Anirvachniye viz, “undescribable.” It contains paintings on many themes such as Damm, Sthir, Avarniye, Eshwar, Moh Bhang, Sansar etc. She describes each of these painting themes by expressing her own vision and feeling about the inner and spiritual world.

Eshwar/Suniyata Khanna

She describes her new collection in these words, “This world – and everything within us: body, mind, emotions and thought – is part of an intricate illusion. Ever-shifting and indescribable, it shapes what we feel and how we live, though we rarely see its true nature. Our essence lies beyond form and name, yet we remain bound to them, caught in the cycle of life and death. What appears real slips away; what feels mortal is, in truth, eternal. Where language fails, art begins. In this quiet space, the indescribable becomes visible.”

About her painting titled Eshwar she says, “The maya, the world, the immortal body in which our soul resides cannot be described. It’s beyond logic, yet rational. It’s beyond perception, yet approachable. It’s beyond words, yet plausible. The truth that cannot be neatly classified as real or unreal is the very essence of Maya, the illusion that sustains existence, yet dissolves under true awareness. Forms emerge, dissolve, and reappear — waves upon the still ocean of consciousness. Each life, each moment, is a temporary vibration of the eternal. The illusion is not deceit but the divine act of becoming.”

Similarly, about her painting titled Sansar, Suniyata says, “Everything we see is shrouded in light and shadow – an endless interplay of opposites. What appears tangible dissolves upon touch. The veil between real and unreal is thinner than breath, yet it defines all that we know. To glimpse beyond it is to stand at the edge of truth, worthless.”

These thoughts of Suniyata reflect her understanding of Indian spirituality and also her deep reflection of the spiritual ideas. For her, spirituality is building a bond to connect with her inner self and also with the outer light in the universe. She understands the soul as residing in an ephemeral body and forever connecting with the eternal divinity. This world as we see it is unreal and our soul has to constantly make an effort to make a journey towards the eternal light.

Suniyata’s spirituality and her creativity ave become one in this new collection of her painting. Her style reflects the ephemeral nature of life and the apparent universe that she expresses through her art. Soft, pastel colours, lines which are still taking shape, expressions which are still taking form underline her spiritual thoughts in this collection. The transient nature of life in these paintings guides the soul towards its journey to meet the eternal light.
