The Computer Media Dealers Association (CMDA), Mumbai, founded in 1981 is one of India’s oldest IT associations which once stood as a pillar of the industry. However, some internal technical challenges caused a significant decline in the membership. While Samir Parekh, Owner, Brainpoint Computer, played a crucial role in another IT association for over a decade; Parekh’s return to CMDA Mumbai, a move that marked a turning point in reviving the association to its former strength and influence.
At the time of his return to CMDA, the association’s strength had dwindled to just 25 members. Yet, within three years after his return, Parekh brought about a remarkable revival for the association, welcoming back many members who had migrated to other associations. His leadership attracted a diverse spectrum of IT professionals, from laptop dealers, cybersecurity experts, exporters, CCTV specialists, to manufacturers.
In 2024–25, CMDA flourished with the support of key contributors like Mihir Shah, Rajkumar Shaith, Paresh Patel, Chetanya Shah, Devang Gattani, Nirav Raval, Bhavesh Gandhi and Vivek Gandhi. Their efforts helped to drive successful programmes, including a financial literacy session hosted by Ekvity and a major event sponsored by a reputed software firm.
Parekh also led CMDA’s participation in the prestigious InfoComm event at BKC by organising high-level meetings with dignitaries such as MLA, Parag Alwani and IT Minister, Ashish Shelar. These initiatives reinforced CMDA’s influence as a distinct and revitalised entity.
Parekh ensured that other deserving CMDA members were also recognised and awarded by awarding organisations, further solidifying CMDA’s reputation.
Continuing his commitment, Parekh supported an E-waste awareness session led by Nirav Raval, Founder of PraanVaayu E-Waste Awareness Foundation, educating members on Mumbai’s AQI and environmental responsibility.
Today, CMDA Mumbai boasts of nearly 225 senior, reputable business owners. Parekh’s vision and integrity inspired previous members to rejoin with full trust, making CMDA Mumbai once again a prominent force in the India’s IT landscape. This resurgence is a testament to his commitment.
