Lake Khajjiar | Travel and Sightseeing

From News Desk

Lake Khajjiar is situated on top of a mountain at a height of 1951 metres (6400 feet) above the Dalhousie town in the Himalayas. In order to go there from Delhi, one has to go via Chandigarh to Pathnkot in Punjab. From there, enter into Himachal and proceed to Dalhousie. Usually, people see the Dalhousie town first, which has a few churches and a shopping complex belonging to the British period, before going up the mountain to reach Lake Khajjiar. The lake is situated in the middle of a grassy flatbed which is surrounded by the mountains and forests of cedar (Deodar) trees on all sides. From Dalhousie, the distance is about 16 kms.

There is a temple nearby dedicated to the Khajji Nag deity. The lake takes its name from this temple.

There are activities at the lake for the sightseers and there are huge transparent balloons inside which small children can roll.

If you would like to stay there for a few days, i’s better to stay at Dalhousie.

The best place to go there is during May and during Oct. Check for rain and landslides before proceeding.
