Infoglen at its Gurgaon office hosted 14 children from a nearby school under Jai Hind Slum Project.
Ibrahim Ahmad, MD, Infoglen said, “As always, it was an inspirational experience to see the excitement, thrill and inquisitiveness of the little ones while they spent half a day in our office. The cool AC, the big board room with revolving chairs, the big monitor, the nice work stations, the well-lit cubicles, the hot and cold water dispenser, the lifts, delighted them as they ran all over the office, touching everything, and trying to figure out what it what. The activities included three short movies and discussions on the lessons from the movies, story-telling, poem recitation and fights in between. The objective was to show these slum kids how a corporate office looks and works; and try and inspire them to reach the skies. Interestingly, almost all of them wanted to be either a doctor, or a cop, when they grow up. The little ones left after lunch, but their energy, enthusiasm and curiosity left all of us thinking about the latent power (human resource) India was sitting on and how could it be unearthed and ignited. These little ones can speed up our dream of developed India in the most unexpected ways.”
Jai Hind project is an education and skills development programme of the Tarraqi Foundation to enable the children and youth of urban slums and villages to have better employment/earning opportunities. It also supports the slum community by disseminating information on health and hygiene, access to scholarships, welfare schemes etc. The Tarraqi Foundation is facilitating this project with the philanthropic support of Samaritans and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility).
It offers FLN (Foundational Literacy & Numeracy) training and bridge coaching for ‘out of school’ and ‘dropout children’, to go back or get admission at a nearby government school or low-cost private school (under RTE). Moreover, it ensures future support for the children and youth through subject coaching (middle and secondary school), skill development, employability and entrepreneurial support. Working in a participatory way with the parents and local community, it also provides support for accessing scholarships, welfare schemes etc. and counselling/support on health and nutrition.
