Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, through its Energy Consortium, has signed an MoU with Energy Systems Catapult (ESC), UK, an innovation centre backed by the UK Government, to advance clean energy innovation through cross-border knowledge exchange, applied research and commercialisation.
The MoU was signed at IIT Madras in the presence of Prof. Raghunathan Rengasamy, Dean, Office of Global Engagement, IIT Madras (Virtually), Prof. Manu Santhanam, Dean, Office of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research, IIT Madras, Prof. Satya Seshadri, Faculty Head, The Energy Consortium – IIT Madras and Dr. Nikhil Tambe, CEO, The Energy Consortium, IIT Madras. ESC was represented by Brendan O’Neill, Advisor – Innovator Support and International, with Babita Sharma, British High Commission in attendance.
A statement from the IIT Madras says that this partnership will drive joint innovation in areas including renewable energy, smart grids, energy storage, electric mobility, green hydrogen and maritime sustainability, while opening access to global networks for Indian startups and researchers.
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this collaboration marks a major step in strengthening the UK–India Net Zero alliance and advancing impactful industry-academia-government cooperation, the IIT Madras statement adds.
